2013 - The Journey Continues

Back to Savannah and the "Rest of the Journey."

For those of you who may have been following this adventure, you might have wondered, "what happened to those guys anyway?"  Well, we are all subject to the realities of work and other obligations;  both took us away from Arrluk for over a year as we continued to plan and work toward financing the next step of her move.  She remained safely moored in the Savannah area, well cared for by our local marina Since then we all moved to a small Alaskan town until just recently, when Captain Bob 'retired,' (or at least is taking an extended sabbatical);  our younger crew members started home schooling, and Arrluk has had "A little work done."

Crew Arrluk +1 (L to R) Raylynn, grand-daughter Alannah (photo opportunist and non crew-member), 1st Mate Kathy, Matthew, Captain Bob and Alex. Photo taken at Pt. Defiance Park, Tacoma, Washington, with the Vashon Island Ferry in the background.

And so the new adventure begins.  We began 'downsizing' some months ago, and shipped a total of 25 USPS Flat Rate boxes of household items and tools to Arrluk, then shipped the remaining household furnishings to Seattle by barge.  With a short stop in Poulsbo and Seattle, Washington at the end of January to visit some of our grand children and participate in a job interview, the crew is now on their way back to Savannah to join Arrluk and get her ready for her voyage south.

Currently, with a number of fairly involved projects aboard and our last crew member, Don, due in Savannah  on February 12th, we project a southerly departure date of 15 February or shortly thereafter.  We look forward to sharing some of those project details with you all, as we tackle and overcome each.  Once underway, we'll be posting a link to our tracking system and posting regular updates on our progress.

  1. Where are you going to stow 25 boxes of "stuff" and still get aboard? Remember I've been on the Arrluk :).

    1. Well, flat-rate boxes are kind of small, and these contain various tools and kitchen items that will prove useful for projects and living aboard. Too bad they are too small for our nice big BBQ grill, because I will miss her on the voyage.
